NFL Prospect Grading Scale

Here is my grading scale that I will be using throughout my evaluations. It would not make much sense to put a bunch of scouting reports up here with numbers and letters and no one knows what it means. The grading scales are broken down into 3 parts:

1. Individual Skill Grades

9.0 = Rare Quality-Few players ever achieve this rating in anything but size
8.5 = Great-Same as above
8.0 = Exceptional
7.5 = Excellent
7.0 = Outstanding
6.5 = Very Good
6.0 = Good/Solid
5.5 = Very Inconsistent-Has ability to be good
5.0 = Adequate-Can improve over time
4.0-4.9 = Marginal
3.0-3.9 = Poor
1.0 = Not good enough for NFL consideration

2. Alpha Grading Scale

A = Rare athletic ability and production = 1st

B = Rare athletic ability/limited production = 1st
due to system in college

C = Rare athletic ability and production = 1st
size grade is lower than an 8.0

D = Outstanding athletic ability and production = 1st

E = Very good athletic ability/inconsistent = 3rd - 7th
production

F = Limited athletic ability/outstanding = 2nd - 7th
production-makes plays

G = Very good athletic ability/production = 1st - 7th
doesn't meet minimum height

H = Converting to new position for NFL = 3rd - 7th

I = Good athletic ability/production = 1st - 7th

J = Very good athletic ability/production = 2nd - 7th
doesn't meet minimum weight

M = Very good athletic ability/inconsistent = 3rd - 7th
production

Z = Good athletic ability/production = 7th - FA

3. Numerical Grading Scale

7.0-7.9
= Pro Bowl Player = 1st
6.5-6.9
= Highly Productive Starter = 1st
6.3-6.4
= Very Good Starter = 2nd
6.1-6.2
= Good Starter = 3rd
6.0
= Very productive backup/will develop into starter = 3rd
5.9
= Very good backup & very good special teams player = 4th
5.8
= Quality backup & good special teams player = 5th
5.7
= Backup player/special teams & project players = 6th
5.6
= Backup player/special teams & project players = 6th/7th
5.5
= Backup player/special teams & project players = 7th/priority FA
5.0-5.4
= Players with 1 or more limitations-backup/special teams type = FA

So there it is, that is the evaluation scale for grading NFL prospects as designed by Russ Lande of GMjr.com. If you have any questions about it I will be more than happy to clear anything up. Next up is the 2009 Quarterback class led by.......
